➳THIS WEEK: I’m thankful for a recent fall date I had with my guy.
Do you date?
And no, I’m not talking about that new, lovely dovey, honeymoon phase, dating dream world…
I’m talking about the personally planned out sacred date nights, (or days), where you, and your partner commit to spending quality time with one another.
Well if you don’t…then I want to suggest that you start!
This isn’t a ‘thing’ for newly dating couples either; I honestly believe it should be something you both commit to, every week, regardless of how long you’ve been together.
I know what you’re going to say…
“But Sairah, there’s just no time…”
Well, I’m sorry, but if your partner is a priority, you need to MAKE time.
It can be any day of the week, and you can both take turns with what you want to do. It doesn’t have to be overly costly, or elaborate either.
The point is that you’re creating undivided time and re-connecting with one another.
As we all know, life gets busy, and some days it probably feels like you hardly see your honey AT ALL, (even if you live together).
But that’s what makes this sacred time so important.
Johnny and I try to set aside our date night once a week. With his crazy work hours, and me running a virtual business, sometimes things come up, but we always try to keep at least one day open.
It could even be as simple as spending a couple of hours together, where we cook up some popcorn, and build laughter abs, from watching a couple episodes of Friends.
BUT my ideal date, is when we can get active together, and spend some time in nature.
And that’s exactly what we did this past Thanksgiving long weekend.
After two family gatherings, out of town commuting, and being stuffed from stuffing (literally)… Johnny suggested on our way home, that we take a short drive up to Elora Gorge for a nice long hike.
For those of you who have never been to Elora, it’s a beautiful community that is about 15-20 mins outside of Waterloo, Canada. The Grand River flows through the bottom of the gorge, and it’s aligned with monstrous limestone cliffs.
A couple years back, during the summer we had visited the gorge, but never in the fall.
I’m absolutely obsessed with the vibrant fall season so I agreed it was the perfect spot to spend our fall ‘date day’.
Not only did we get to walk off our turnip and turkey bellies, but we both also seemed to gain quite a bit of mental clarity that day.
I feel it really put us in a great state of mind leading into the week ahead.
Along our hike, we also found some pretty cool graffiti art, which reminded me of the artwork that is spread across the city of Melbourne, where we will be headed for our next adventure.
We tried our best to keep our electronic use to a minimum, other then capturing some cool photos.
The best part about dating your best friend is that you always feel comfortable, no matter how the day may go.
We had times where we could both be silent and soak up the peacefulness, whilst collecting our own thoughts, and we of course had some good solid life chats as well.
After spending the weekend with the in-laws, it was nice to catch up.
Ultimately, it was a really awesome day, and it ended our long weekend off nicely.
Now, I’d love to hear from YOU!
